Electrical engineering is firmly embedded in the everyday life of people in Russia.
Quickly becoming an indispensable part of everyday life. The annual steady increase in the share of electrical equipment in the Russian market is primarily due to the introduction of environmental protection and benefits including low cost of ownership, ease and compactness, as well as comfort and fast charging.
All this becomes available only thanks to the technology of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries.
The Russian warehouse equipment market: trends and prospects of Li-ion technology
The trends and experience of everyday life for those operating in the use of electrical equipment with Li-ion batteries is developing. More and more we see these trends being adopted by enterprises and businesses, including the VET market. Increased demand creates a supply in this segment and, as a result, leads to changes in the overall picture of the market.
The demand for electric vehicles in Russia has increased for various reasons. New laws in Russia that restrict the use of diesel-powered cars in food, paper, and pharmaceutical industries have certainly played a part in these market developments.
Li-ion technology has advantages not only in terms of ecology, but also in terms of business. European brands operating in the Russian Federation were the first to switch to electric equipment with Li-ion batteries. Soon after, Russian companies discovered the advantages utilized by other businesses and began to make use of the same technology.
5 years ago, Russian VET market, the warehousing and industrial equipment market, was dominated by forklifts with diesel, gasoline and gas engines that made up 50% of equipment. In recent years the share of electrical equipment has grown to 70% in present day. Moreover, of these 70%, the share of stackers and pallet transporters is 47%, and a further 12% is accounted for by electric loaders.
As a result, in 2020, when importing 25,000 units of equipment to the territory of the Russian Federation, electrical equipment amounted to 17,500 units, including 1,250 units with lithium-ion batteries. This means the share of electrical equipment equipped with Li-ion batteries was 4%. The main importers of warehouse electrical equipment are Jungheinrich, Linde, Still, Noblelift and EP Equipment.
According to customs statistics for 2020, among the 1,250 imported vehicles, 400 are from EP Equipment . For the most part, this is the merit of EP’s hard working Russian dealers such as Litavis.
EP Equipment and Litavis
Litavis started its career in the Russian VET market in 2019, becoming an official distributor for EP Equipment. Tracing back to the start of the partnership, when Litavis was looking for a strategic partner in China, EP Equipment was one of the largest manufacturers of warehouse equipment. EP has its own production plants and are leaders in Li-ion technology development for over a decade, at this time the Russian market was just beginning to grow.
Litavis worked with EP to develop their knowledge of electrical equipment with Li-ion, carrying capacity of 1-5 tons, with batteries of 20- 540 Ah. This equipment, presented at the CeMAT 2019, gave the Russian market an idea of the stance of EP Equipment and inspired a strong sales impulse and an increase in the brand’s share in Russia.
Talking about the biggest difference of EP Equipment from other brands in Russian market, the various product options offered by EP are highly appreciated.
“The range of pallet transfer trucks and stackers is wider than that of Heli, Hangcha and JAC. Only Jungheinrich and Linde can compete with such a wide range of products, offered lifting capacities and lifting heights. The complete set of different types of batteries allows customers from different industries to choose the optimal solution for capacity and not to overpay for a powerful battery.” Alena Kudinova, Marketing Manager from Litavis said.
“The components of renowned and time-tested manufacturers are a long warranty period and extended service intervals, electric forklifts with a nominal load capacity of 1-10 tons and increased comfort and safety in the operator’s work with cargo. High rates of cargo handling speeds and smooth handling of cargo are a must for these brands and informative dashboards and intuitive control interface accompany these quality features .” Alena added.
Currently, both EP and Litavis focus on electrical engineering and the lithium-ion battery segment. EP Equipment has now become one of the top 2 manufacturers in the Russian market in terms of import and sales of Li-ion equipment in the following segments: pallet transporters, electric stab carriers, and electric loaders.
Litavis sells a wide range of EP Equipment and all models are available in stock in Moscow, starting from the EPT12EZ pallet transporter with a load capacity of 1.2 tons to the CPD30L1 electric loader with a load capacity of 3 tons with the most powerful battery.
Alena introduced to our team the Li-ion hot sellers from EP in Russia:
EPT12-EZ, a pallet transporter with compact size and easy operation; EST122 and ES16-RS, helpful stackers covering light to heavy applications needs; EFL181, the most popular EP loader in Russia, a perfect combination of flexibility and power. With examples of the industries these models apply to including; food industry, automotive industry, wholesale of food products, online trade of various consumer goods, cargo transportation and warehouses of responsible storage.
In Russia, winter is long and snowy and in recent years even more extremely cold in January for outdoor work. To popularize lithium-ion equipment is very cutting-edge. Litavis recommends that customers use Li-ion appliances inside a warm warehouse on flat floors. In rare cases, on the street using a closed steel cabin with a heater for comfortable operation for the operator. From the entire range of electrical equipment, users can choose suitable models, which are safe for light outside application to load and unload cargo vehicles, overcoming snowdrifts.
To date, EP Equipment, and its revolutionary Li-ion technology, firmly occupies a leading position in the Russian market. It is not inferior to the leading manufacturers in Germany in terms of reliability, durability, functionality, and operational convenience. At an affordable price, EP Equipment has become a sign of quality that is accessible to a wide audience, and lithium-ion technology is a smart choice in favor of safety and efficiency for the Russian market and wider markets globally.
